MSI begins shipping the Wind (we think)

Why, I can make a hat or a brooch or a pterodactyl...
(Credit: MSI)Has anyone received an MSI Wind yet? CNET Reviews is still waiting for its promised evaluation unit to arrive, but MSI put out a release today that says the company, after a number of delays, is finally shipping its mininotebook to those who preordered it. MSI must be working through a large backlog of preorders because a quick scan of the sites listed in the release reveals nary single unit in stock. Fry's, Newegg, and ZipZoomfly don't even have it listed. Mwave and Buy.com list it as out of stock, while Amazon estimates it can ship you one in three to five weeks.
To recap, the MSI Wind is a 10-inch, 2.3-pound laptop that looks to be a serious challenger to the Asus Eee PC. The model found online today is the $499 unit that features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, Windows XP Home, and a three-cell battery. MSI states a Windows-based model with a six-cell battery will be available in September along with a Linux-based model with a three-cell battery.
Those orders that have shipped should be arriving via overnight delivery, per MSI's earlier promise to those patient customers who preordered a unit. If you've received an MSI Wind, please let dear Crave know. And we'll do the same as soon as an MSI Wind shows up for its benchmarking at CNET Labs.
Update: the MSI Wind has landed and been reviewed. Long story short: it's got a great design, and the 10-inch screen aids functionality without taking it out of Netbook range, but the 3-cell battery turns in predictably poor battery life.

hey guys i am currently in malaysia and i just got back from the tech mall, Lo Yat, and do i have good news they had the msi wind to buy in store, as well as the 10" eee pc which i might add is kinda heavy. I am visiting my parents here wo i was with them helping them shop and they ended up buying eee pc with windows xp 8.9" screen, intel celeron processor and 30 gigs of solid state memory. and the best part wanot to get one however, it was cheaper there to buy the wind then the 10" eee pc. I think the wind came in at 563 USD but there were so little of them them they probably jacked the price up, the 10" eee pc was about 650 usd. Man these ar fun gadgets.
