The world's smallest 8GB flash drive

(Credit: Super Talent)

We've always been curious about Super Talent's name, and finally its origins are slowly becoming clear to us: It must be some kind of allusion to Hollywood celebrities, because the company seems obsessed with the anorexic dimensions of its storage devices.

The latest example of this apparent fixation is what it calls "the world's smallest 8GB drive," according to Fareastgizmos. Indeed, even with the countless flash drives on the market, the ultra-petite "Pico-C" would be hard to beat in the shrinkage department. It weighs less than a nickel and is only a little bigger than a quarter, as shown in the picture above.

The only potential problem, however, is that it may be too small. It's a good thing that the drive is water-resistant, because it's bound to be forgotten in somebody's pocket and end up in the wash.

Shades of the prophecy of the iPod Invisa coming true? What's the point in making things SO small that the form factor impacts its usability? Simply because you can? I know...it's a flash drive for woodland Faeries.

I've already ordered one. Can't wait to test this thing!!! My cost was $39 with shipping included. For an 8GB, you can't beat the price. My current USB is 4GB, bulky and annoying as I wear next to my badges at work. This new one should be much better!!!!

Doesn't look too small to be usable. If it's fast enough, I like it. Good job, Super Talent!

Humm.... It's very cool, who cares about practicality. (only partly kidding) I would by it becuase of the novelty of it. If I were a manufacture attempting to compete in a marketplace that had about a billion competitors all doing the price war marketing ting, I would definatley look for a way to set my offerings appart from the masses. This seems a really neat way to do it.

Great for keeping (incriminating) data with you at all times, but still being able to hide it in bodily cavities.

I like my Sandisk Cruzer Micro the best. Its the PERFECT size and holds 1GB of data. 2GB is plenty of memory for any Flashdrive.

It great that they are making flash drives smaller and smaller but still allowing it to pack a lot of storage. Now how about taking this knowledge and putting it into something that needs the room for something else. Such an example would be the 8GB iPhone....if that same amount of memory can be packed into something the size of a quarter why not? The extra space could easily be used for something else. With the 3G iPhone coming out soon with its rumored features battery time will be an issue. Allowing more cells to be put into the phone with a smaller flash drive will cancel out any complaints about the battery usage. However, this type of thing could be extended to any other device that uses flash memory. Anyways back on track, I wonder how fast the drive will be. As for me, I have the Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4GB that I got on black friday and it's size does not bother me....however I can see someone forgetting that their Super Talent flash drive was in their pants before putting it into the wash. Flash drives are getting smaller but instead how about keeping the drive a good size and increasing the capacity instead.

If the drive is water resistant it does not make it water-proof so there-fore it will be destroyed in the wash.
