MacBook Air sliced and diced

Don't try taking this to the Genius Bar.

Leave it to the guys at iFixit to get a new MacBook Air and, instead of showing off at the local coffee shop (like us), they take the thing apart. The company specializes in Mac and iPod parts and repairs, but it is perhaps best known for taking every new Apple product and dissecting it. They then post step-by-step photos and a detailed analysis of the parts inside.

From iFixit's photos, we see that the battery is the biggest internal component by far. It is held in place by nine screws, in case you were thinking about replacing it yourself. Like the iPod, the 80GB hard drive is protected by both a rubber bumper and a layer of foam (similar to what we found when replacing an iPod hard drive a couple of years ago). The custom Intel CPU is protected by an unusual thin aluminum heat sink--necessitated by the laptop's slim design.

You can check out the dozens of detailed photos, and a piece by piece count of the 88 screws that hold it together, over at iFixit's MacBook Air autopsy.

Battery takes up a lot of space!
by jscott418 February 4, 2008 12:49 PM PST
I can see why the MacBook Air had to give up so much. The battery is taking up
over half of the internal space! Plus, real world tests are giving battery life at
about half of Apple's own estimate. OK, I am sure Mac Fans will still love it.
After all Steve Jobs has pretty much brainwashed them into believing he is the
Apple god. But those of us who still think in practical terms rather then
aesthetics only will find too much lacking in the MB Air.

Your post is so typical jealous windows rhetoric

All I hear is a trapped soul begging to be free from years of windows
brainwashing but you yourself are probably still using windows which has been
outdated for quite a few years now but your just too scared to let go of your
blankey. Yes I do agree that the Air is far far far from perfect but the operating
system which it runs on happens to be about 5 years more advanced than your
vista and is loads of fun. So spew your Microsoft preaching its just a matter of
time my friend!
