Remembering James Kim

One year ago today, we learned of the death of our dear friend and colleague, James Kim. James was, both at work and at home, a kind, intelligent, exuberant presence. We miss him very much.

To keep James' memory alive, we want to revisit the video tribute we created when we first heard the news. We hope you enjoy these video clips from CNET.com and Crave as much as we have.

In his honor, James' family and friends have established the James Kim Technology Foundation (JKTF). The foundation provides San Francisco public schools, and the children who attend them, access to emerging technologies like the ones James covered every day for CNET.com and Crave. You can learn more about JKTF at the foundation's Web site.

I can't believe its already been a year, time really does pass so quickly. He was honestly one of my favorite people here at Cnet and he is still missed by the users I'd like to think. God bless the Kim family. R.I.P. James.

As someone who didn't know him personally, but sincerely enjoyed his work, wit, and intelligent reviews, I wish only peace and comfort to his family and friends. James made a difference for CNET viewers, and was clearly a wonderful father and husband.

I didn't know James Kim, but it really has been a while since I remember going to cnet.com back in 2001 to find the right mp3 player for myself... Now I'm back looking for the right cell phone... and I wondered, where did James Kim go? He will be missed. Sincere condolences to his family.

I remember hearing about this story a year ago. I remember thinking to myself, would any husband and father do that? That's the kind of man i aspire to be.

TO GIVE YOUR LIFE TO SAVE YOUR FAMILY, A TRUE HERO

He was always my favorite editor of a great cast. I always looked foward to his reviews and valued his opinions. He was very knowledgeable but always cool, calm and humble. He always kept everything fun around Cnet. When I heard about his death and the sacrifice that he made, I was very sad that he passed away but was very proud that he put his family first no matter what it cost. I still look back at times at old reviews just to see he see his cool calm reviews and wished that he was still with his family and friends. My heart goes out to them.

R.I.P. James Kim

Im getting goose bumps just thinking about this.
I always waited to see what player he was going to review next. Not only for the knowledge of technology, but I appreciated his expertise, wit, and general personality.

Even though CNET employs a great all-star cast that I do appreciate and that keep me coming back to the site, James was my favourite.

May you rest in peace Mr. James Kim

James is an inspiration

Crave, thank you for honoring James' memory with this post. Our fond memories is what keeps him alive to all of us. He is in our hearts (and ears). For a long time, I kept the Buzz out loud that was released right after his death, it was comforting to hear his voice. He is an inspiration and is deeply missed. I am sending my love to his wife and daughters on this special day.

i remember this time last year and how everything played out. it was a very sad time but at the same time it was great to hear that his family made it out okay. i don't know what else to say other than that those of us who used to read his columns and watch his reviews miss him and we wish his family all the best as always.

Just wanted to say that James was the #1 reason I would frequent cnet - to get his take on the latest in greatest. I haven't forgotten him yet, and I never will. RIP, James.
