OLPC: Give One Get One Day One

(Credit: OLPC)

Just a friendly reminder: the two-week Give One Get One OLPC promotion got under way today, which means you have until November 26 (should you be a resident of the U.S. or Canada) to plunk down $399 to purchase an XO laptop for yourself while donating another to a child in a developing nation. If you want yours by the holidays, it's probably best to act sooner than later; OLPC doesn't guarantee delivery in time for the holidays but states your odds are greater the earlier you order. Two other notes: you can write off $200 of the order, and T-Mobile is throwing in a year of free HotSpot access for U.S. participants.

If you want to bypass the waiting period (and you don't want to donate) check out Ebay for the OLPC.

I got mine - no hassle

My first priority was for the donated laptop to get sent. The second one for me was a bonus. I received my OLPC laptop a few weeks ago. I knew not to expect it before Christmas and I thought it came pretty timely. It is a truly amazing accomplishment. I know this concept has gotten some bad press but truthfully it is a valiant effort to make technology available and I applaude the vision. If it sponds more like minded projects, gets the overall cost down or challenges the gurus to "make something better"...well, everybody could win!
