The 'Walkstation' is too much work

(Credit: Steelcase)

Following unusual workstations has become something of a hobby for Crave (we don't get out much), but usually they involve conditions that are designed for maximum comfort. So one can appreciate our alarm upon viewing the "Walkstation" for its obvious threat to our stated pursuit of laziness, even while working.

This tortuous apparatus is essentially a standing-height desk attached to a treadmill, combining work with exercise for the ultimate in multi-tasking. Made by office furniture company Steelcase, the Walkstation is scheduled to make its formal debut next month for a reported price of $6,500. (That would pay for a lot of time at the gym, not to mention doughnuts.)

While clearly not our cup of tea, we know more than a few people who would love to have one. The alpha executives, in particular, could use them to prove their superiority over lesser simians.

Easy way to burn a lot of calories

I've wanted something like this for a while, but I doubt I can get my current employer to buy one for me. Plus, it might be odd being the only one in the office with one. Once I've got my own businesses going though ... oh yeah, definitely for me. I don't think you have to worry about breaking a sweat to still burn a lot of calories. Even walking at only 1 mile per hour for 8 hours will gain you 8 miles of extra calories burnt. I can't imagine breaking a sweat at 1 mile per hour. Maybe I would even get dangerous and bump it up to 2 miles per hour most of the time. :D

You won't sweat at 1 mph and you will gain some tremendous health benefits in a rather short time. Think about it. Did we evolve at a desk or walking around? Our bodies are made to move and when we don't do that all kinds of bad things happen. There is a more affordable product that works with existing treadmills called TrekDesk. They have a website by the same name that goes into great detail at www.trekdesk.com. Good luck!
