Apple holding 'special event' on Sept. 5

"The beat goes on" on September 5 in San Francisco, where Apple will hold a "special event" presumably to introduce new iPods.

As usual, Apple avoided directly stating what's on tap, but the use of the Cover Flow album artwork and Apple's latest iPod ads rather heavily suggests that we're in store for an iPod/iTunes-related event. Ars Technica reported last week that Apple was planning an event for the 5th, and several reports have surfaced in recent weeks implying that Apple's about to refresh its iPod lineup.

CNET will be there in force, so stay tuned for further news. The event starts at 10 a.m. on the 5th at San Francisco's Moscone Center, home to Macworld and the Worldwide Developers' Conference.

It appears that it's time for new iPods, according to Apple's latest 'special event' invitation.

Revamped iPod what I'd like to see
by quidditchseeker August 29, 2007 10:39 PM PDT
I have a 30Gb video and I'm disappointed that Apple still does offer not an FM tuner or recorder as part of their iPod package. Hopefuly they will address this issue, otherwise I'll continue to suport Creative Labs, as I have one of their players. Come on Apple listen to the people who buy your products and add these features.

Zen = iPod
by ahypnoz August 30, 2007 5:58 PM PDT
The reason the ipod has done so well is that it does a few things very well and
not a lot of things half way. people spend extra money not to have to think.
The iPod is the Zen of the mp3 players

Apple please do not put a FM tuner, recorder, gps function or a can opener
on the new ipod. It will only make it cluttered, cheap and ruin the zen of the
iPod. It is better to do 4 things really well, than to do 8-10 things half way.

I would like to see the new ipod to look and act like the iphone without the
phone part.

The New IPODs
by jafarm66 September 5, 2007 6:48 AM PDT
I love the IPOD usability but for some reason every large capacity IPOD I've had dies. The IPODs I've had were well taken care of, the battery was fed when needed and it was never dropped yet it still died. For this reason I will not buy an IPOD immediately. I will stick to my Zune. FYI I did have great luck with a NANO until I lost it at work.

It would be cool...

If they put the scaled down version of OS X as the iPods main operating system. However in doing so I would think you would have no choic ebut to change the way the iPod looks, or how the user interfaces with it.

It would be great with bluetooth. I'm not too sure about fm radio maybe HD radio(don't care for commercials). The iphone is like a PDA so if anyone else wants it like the iphone you're asking for a PDA. An there's nothing wrong with that. Whoever said more features is not good must work for the U.S. wireless companies. And about Creative Labs... they suck, they waited until the ipod arrived and then TRIED to make a better mp3 player. Don't get me wrong I don't totally like Apple, the limits they put on their products is the equivelent of shopping at a store and being robbed by the store. Even though Apple puts out some buggy products(it pays to be first) the only good thing about them is they push technology in the right direction and that creates competition.
