Speed Racer's 'Mach 5' comes to life

(Credit: Warner Bros.)

We extend our thanks in advance for your indulgence of our trip down memory lane this morning. Honest, we've tried to shake this nostalgia bug, but it keeps coming back--and this time we're not going to fight it, and you'll see why.

The Speed Racer car is real. That's right. The "Mach 5" has been brought to life in full glory from the '60s animation version (at least the body, anyway) for the Warner Bros. movie scheduled for release next year, according to Gizmodo. And thank goodness for that, because it's probably the only thing that's remained faithful to the seminal anime show. Christina Ricci as Trixie? Matthew Fox as Racer X? Please. We'll stick with the original series on DVD.

Cartoon Movies

I am curious who are the quasi-adults who pay to see cartoons turned into movies? Wasn't the Flintstones awful enough to make everyone thing twice about that concept. vclosets

What is the appeal of this show? The cartoon was truly horrible. I don't get the transformers live-action movie either. Keep it up Hollywood. Just don't whine next year and blame illegal downloads for your loss of revenue. Mediocrity is not rewarded!

Some of us actually enjoyed our childhood and enjoy seeing these movies made in something entertaining for the whole family. Watch out those darn kids might be on your lawn too. "Lets Roll Out"

I loved Speed Racer as a boy and now my son loves Speed Racer too. We are both excited to see this movie and would pay big money to drive the Mach V. Plus, Christina Ricci is hot and will be a great Trixie.

Zerosen,
You must have been watching another cartoon. Mom Racer appeared in numerous episodes. She was always seen wearing an apron with a heart on it and almost always had a plate of cookies for Spritle to munch. (Perhaps causing his hyperactivity and propensity to get into trouble) This cartoon, while aimed at young audiences, had numerous adult oriented puns and references. For example, the "Nightona 500" instead of the "Daytona 500" and the race which was attended by "Princess Gracious and Prince Snowier" instead of "Princess Grace and Prince Ranier" Don't bother to google, get the DVD's and watch the show.
