The solar-powered hat fan taught us how to survive the summer heat, but what about the winter doldrums? Enter the "Feel Bright Light" from Hollywood Gadgets. A set of LED bulbs affixed underneath the brim of a visor bathe your face in happy light to help ward off seasonal affective disorder, for a mere $200. Our take: We'd rather stay in a permanent funk.

Let AIDS be your funny guide next time
by BrandeisGrad March 25, 2007 5:47 AM PDT: I can appreciate pushing the edge to keep humor and irony in these pages fresh. Sometimes stuff like this happens. But depression is a serious disease faced by countless millions. They didn't mean to be insensitive, but they didn't try hard enough not to be. Imagine if someone had invented an LED-based light therapy device designed (however dubiously) to combat AIDS in the bloodstream. Would this post have been so glib? Consider: 31,595 died of depression-related suicide in 2002 according to WHO; 17,011 died of AIDS in 2005. Next time let's keep AIDS a little more front-of-mind as a yardstick for good taste, okay, guys?; Reply to this comment View reply

You all need to take a chillpill
by Thisnameisstupid March 25, 2007 7:42 PM PDT: First of all it is because of Craves wry, politically incorrect sense of humor that I and I bet a lot of other people come here in the first place. Seeing as how I, (unlike a couple of you) am not offended by anything and everything I enjoyed this small little post. Taking nothing away from the seriousness that is depression, I am just saying that you all should just take a step back and breathe, the article was aimed at being funny, and guess what, I bet that to the vast majority of readers it was funny. Why should they change this small little post to conform to the thin skinned minority, and leave the majority cut off from a small little bit of comedy. I don't know much about depression, but I do know that people who laugh alot are less depressed then those who don't....hmmm....I wonder what that has to do with anything....; Reply to this comment
