Denon is getting into the headphone business. The company, best known for it home theater products, has announced five headphone models ranging in price from $50 to $700. With the exception of the DN-HP1000, a $160 model in Denon's professional DJ audio line, the new products are the company's first foray into the consumer headphone market.

At the top end of the new lineup are two high-end, over-the-ear (circumaural) models, the AH-D2000 ($350) and the flagship AH-D5000 ($700), the latter model boasting a real wood mahogany housing that is said to deliver superior acoustics. While those full-size models are intended for audiophile listening sessions at home, the AH-D1000 ($150, available in black or silver) is an on-the-ear (supra-aural) model that's more easily transportable for listening on the go. All three offer Denon's microfiber diaphragm technology, a superdense material that the company claims "increases frequency transmission rates for better sound and detail, affording maximum presence of acoustic sounds with low distortion."

Rounding out the series are two earbud models, the AH-C700 ($200, black or silver) and the entry-level AH-C350 ($50, black or white). Both utilize an in-ear "canal phone" design, and include three different size tips to maximize comfort.

All five Denon headphones should be available before the end of February.

I've owned a pair of consumer Denon AH-D950 headphones for about 10 years, and they are great, BTW.

Denon Headphones have been around before...

Denon has been manufacturing headphones for a while now. Some models where: AH-D950, AH-D750, AH-D650, AH-D550, AH-D350 and AH-D210. In my opinion the AH-D950 was the best sounding pair of headphones I ever wore. They have been compared to the likes of Sennheiser HD600. The AH-D950, AH-D750 and AH-D650 were discontinued years ago but you can still buy the AH-D550,AH-D350 and the AH-D210. If any of the new releases are as good as the AH-D950, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy a pair.
